I was doing something a little bit different last week, going back to my illustrating days. I designed two very different and distinctive book cover images for a poetry book entitled The Whole Tangerine. For the first, I chose a detailed tangerine on a striped cloth to go with the summer vibes and stand out in a bookshop. I've noticed there are a lot of citrus fruits and Mediterranean-style art popular at the moment. For the second, I went a completely different route and had fun playing with paint and colour. I used watercolours for both. The poem is about a marriage, so I used the symbol of rings entwined in the bottom left. I did this by adding water to the dry paint, creating a more subtle impression.
I am waiting to see which image the publisher prefers...
