I live on the beautiful island of Anglesey (Ynys Môn) and love to walk the coastal paths and beaches gathering ideas and inspiration. I am currently working on a series of seascapes inspired by the wild and powerful dynamics of the sea.
I have developed my own contemporary batik style, applying wax and dye to fabric.
The inspiration I take from nature allows me to incorporate organic shapes, textures, and colours into my designs. Whether it's the delicate patterns of leaves, the fluidity of water, or the vibrant hues of flowers, I aim to bring the beauty of the outdoors into my artwork.
Through my batik creations, I hope to evoke a sense of connection to both people and the environment, inviting viewers to appreciate the intricate relationships that exist within our world. I am dedicated to continually exploring and evolving my craft and sharing my passion for batik art with others.
About Celia
Celia Hume is a batik artist originally from Shropshire whose practice has long been shaped by a fascination with painting, colour, and the natural landscapes around her. She pursued this passion academically, studying the history of art alongside fine art, before completing a second degree in visual art and design while teaching in Manchester. After graduating, Celia worked as an illustrator, producing book covers and magazine artwork.
During the lockdown period, Celia began experimenting with batik techniques and quickly recognised the expressive potential of the medium. This exploration led to the development of her distinctive contemporary style. Her work has since been exhibited by leading institutions, including the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, the Society of Women Artists, the Royal Cambrian Academy, and ING Discerning Eye.
Now residing on the picturesque island of Anglesey (Ynys Môn), Celia enjoys the serenity of living just a short stroll from the beach. Surrounded by breathtaking landscapes and nature, she finds fresh inspiration every day, drawing from the beauty that unfolds right outside her door.
